We report the synthesis, characterization, and structural evaluation of a new compound resulting from the condensation reaction of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde (salicylaldehyde) with diphenylmethyl hydrazine. The reaction was conducted under mild conditions which resulted in a high yield of the desired compound, 2-{(E)-[2-(diphenylmethyl)hydrazinylidene]methyl}-3-methylphenol, (DHMP). We confirmed the structure of the synthesized Schiff base using several techniques, including FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. To check its purity, we performed elemental analysis, and for its thermal stability, we used thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Results showed significant structural stabilizing interactions such as hydrogen bonding and non-covalent interactions which may propose an insight into its coordination chemistry and possible biological activity. This produced compound has many values and can be utilized as drugs, catalysts and for many other industrial processes. This discovery contributes to the rising creation and application of hydrazone moieties.
